I only spent a day and a half in Yosemite but the weather was kind and the valley floor is very compact. So I made a couple of circuits looking up at the waterfalls and trees.

Reflections – Yosemite

The Merced River runs down Yosemite’s glacier carved valley creating loads of river/pool reflection opportunities. These first two image are what’s left of Mirror Lake, now almost totally silted up after the tourists in the early twentieth century built rock dams to create deepeer swimming holes.

El Capitan and Half Dome in Yosemite

I spent a couple of weeks in Northern California in November and this is the first of a series of posts with a few pics of my travels. Bit of a whistle-stop tour but a visit to Yosemite National Park was a must. I arrived at the end of the day and caught a classic Valley View with El Capitan and Half Dome beautifully lit. Next day I was never far away from their glacier carved rock faces that dominate the valley. Later that evening the mist and clouds rolled in and the temperature dropped to below freezing.

St. Ives Light

Spent a couple of days in St. Ives in Cornwall. Late December but the famous St. Ives light still there!

Ronda’s Plaza de Toros. The oldest bullfighting ring in Spain. Still in use but hopefully not for much longer.

Around The Alhambra, Granada, Spain

We stayed at the Hotel America inside the Alhambra walls when we visited. Meant I could wander around after the gates had closed when all was quiet and empty. Bumped into a wedding photographer at the end of the day. Couldn’t resist unintrusively grabbing a couple of images as he worked!

The Nasrid Palaces in The Alhambra

The Alhambra is a palace and fortress complex located in the Province of Granada, Spain. It was constructed during the mid 14th century by the Moorish rulers of the Emirate of Granada in al-Andalus, occupying the top of the hill of the Assabica on the southeastern border of the city of Granada. The Alhambra’s Moorish palaces were built for the last Muslim Emirs in Spain and its court, of the Nasrid dynasty. Amazing carvings and plasterwork decorate the interior of the Nasrid Palace.

Stourhead

On the way back from London, we diverted just a couple of miles of the A303 to Stourhead. Skipped the house and enjoyed a couple of hours wandering the world-famous 18th-century landscape garden. Had lunch in the pub and booked to stay the night there on the way up to Heathrow in a couple of weeks.
